Russia Rejects Azerbaijan’s Protest over Yekaterinburg Raids
Maria Zakharova, the ministry’s spokeswoman, stated in a declaration that “The Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for Sverdlovsk Region has already commented on the case,” addressing Baku’s denunciation of the raids that took place on June 27.
She underscored that although the suspects are of Azerbaijani heritage, they hold Russian citizenship and were detained as part of probes into major criminal offenses.
Zakharova also mentioned that the Russian chargé d’affaires in Baku, Pavel Volokov, was summoned to Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry on June 28, where he “provided the necessary explanations” and assured authorities that the matter was being managed.
“Investigative actions on the mentioned criminal cases are ongoing. More detailed information will be made public by the Investigative Committee as it becomes available,” she added.
Earlier, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry expressed serious apprehension about the operations, claiming that some Azerbaijani nationals were killed or seriously wounded, and that nine others were taken into custody.
Baku demanded a swift inquiry and prosecution of those accountable for the “unacceptable violence.”
